چکیده

S irolimus eluting stents are associated with very low restenosis rates when deployed for single de novo native coronary lesions. These and other drug eluting stents are changing the face of interventional cardiology practice. A number of fundamental practical questions arise with the use of these novel stents, including the effects on in-stent restenosis (ISR) of overlapping stents, tandem stents, and deploying drug eluting and bare metal stents in the same vessel, as well as the ongoing issue of higher ISR rates in patients with diabetes. While rabbit iliac and porcine coronary models of ISR are often used for stent evaluation, these models are expensive and subject to a number of well documented limitations. A simple, more cost effective model of ISR would therefore be of major utility. Such a model is described here.

Overview of Intracoronary Brachytherapy for in-Stent Restenosis of a Drug-Eluting Stent

Percutaneous coronary intervention with stenting is considered recently as the most common procedure for the treatment of symptomatic coronary. The article reviewed 41 studies published during 1997-2019 on intracoronary brachytherapy for in-stent restenosis of a drug-eluting stent. Intracoronary radiation therapy was finally confirmed in the setting of in-stent restenosis using as adjunctive th...

Long-Term Type 1 Diabetes Enhances In-Stent Restenosis after Aortic Stenting in Diabetes-Prone BB Rats

Type 1 diabetic patients have increased risk of developing in-stent restenosis following endovascular stenting. Underlying pathogenetic mechanisms are not fully understood partly due to the lack of a relevant animal model to study the effect(s) of long-term autoimmune diabetes on development of in-stent restenosis. We here describe the development of in-stent restenosis in long-term (~7 months)...

Safety, Efficacy and Clinical Outcome of Direct Stent Implantation

Conventional methods of stenting require predilatation, which potentially increase vessel wall injury and cost of the procedure. In this study, the safety and efficacy of direct AVE-S7 (Medtronic-USA) stent placement were evaluated in 100 patients. Quantitative coronary angiography was performed at the baseline and post-stent. Clinical follow-up was done up to 9 months. In 100 patients (76 male...

Association of G22A variant of Adenosine Deaminase gene with coronary in-stent restenosis in coronary artery patients receiving drug-eluting stent

In-stent restenosis (ISR) is regarded as the main problem in the utilization of stents in the treatment of coronary artery atherosclerotic stenosis in percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). This study investigated the possible role of the G22A variant of the Adenosine Deaminase gene (ADA) in the development of ISR. In this study, 91 patients who underwent PCI were divided into two groups of ...

Increased in-stent stenosis in ApoE knockout mice: insights from a novel mouse model of balloon angioplasty and stenting.

OBJECTIVE We aimed to develop and validate a model of angioplasty and stenting in mice that would allow investigation of the response to stent injury using genetically modified mouse strains. METHODS AND RESULTS Aortic segments from either C57BL/6 wild-type or atherosclerotic ApoE-KO mice underwent balloon angioplasty alone or balloon angioplasty and stenting with a 1.25x2.5 mm stainless stee...
